Antwerp Sprout

19th century apartment in Antwerp decorated in a flamboyant style with Murano glass and overscaled tulips

By linking 2 narrow, 19C houses together by means of opening up party- walls the owner of this property in old Antwerp has created a spacious and quirky home and studio. A landscape designer and artist with a passion for all things connected to Tulips he has used his paintbrush to great effect, decorating the house and fabrics with his sinuous overscaled Tulip designs. As well garden design he creates jewellery and collaborates with a shoe designer, all with a Tulip theme. He presented Queen Beatrix of the Netherlands with a crystal Tulip vase of his own design (made by Val Saint Lambert) and is involved in exhibitions charting the history of Tulip bulbs in Antwerp and Holland. The house contains a collection of over 200 1950's Murano vases in wonderful colours, some original painted decoration - the ceilings in one of the houses are especially elaborate examples of mid-1800's flamboyance. The house is decorated in a highly personal style to suit the owners taste exactly.
