The Atelier

Converted warehouse in the South of France.

Bruno Lafourcade is known and highly respected throughout the south of France for his superb design, building and restoration skills, a business he runs in partnership with his son Alexandre. Father and son specialise in residential architecture and design as well as modern wineries. Dominique Lafourcade is equally famous as a gardener and garden designer. In each of their areas of expertise the Lafourcade's work with hand-drawn and coloured plans, a skill that is greatly appreciated by their many international clients. Having lived in a traditional country house near St-Remy-de-Provence Bruno purchased an unconverted 60's salad warehouse and created a spacious (5 bedrooms/4 bathrooms) contemporary residence based on modern sensibilities but without the uncompromising hardness of of minimalism. In a much smaller space than she is used to working with Dominique designed a garden that complements the shape of the house, the rectangular plot of land and subtle changes of level. Bruno has exploited the volume he had available to create airy spaces combined with more intimate areas - the only interior doors on the ground floor are those of the cloakroom and walk-in storage room. Each living space is open to the other accessed by arches of varying widths and heights. Dominique's work studio is cleverly positioned at the centre of the house, behind the living/dining area and open to both the lower level garage area and the staircase lobby; at once providing privacy but still at the heart of the house. Throughout are examples of Bruno's furniture design as well as lamps and finishes designed by Dominique. Triumphant teamwork.
