Old coffee roasting factory

Magnificent apartment in the centre of Antwerp.

There is little sign now that this magnificent apartment was an old coffee roasting factory in the centre of Antwerp just a few steps from the cathedral. Bought by the current owners father, Axel Vervoordt in the 70's, it has variously been used as 3 apartments and later a 2-star restaurant. Boris, who works in the family business (Belgium's most famous and influential interior design and antiques company) as the main buyer of rare and exquisite objects, has taken over the mid-16th century, courtyard building for himself and with his highly trained eye for beauty, scale and the unusual he has created an impressive residence. The contents range from ancient Bactrian and Egyptian objects to 20th century photography, a 60's board room table for dining with 17th century Italian chairs and massive linen-covered sofas. Everything is architectural in shape, large scale and has a purity of form.
