The Little Shop of Horrors

Truly original East London shop and home of artist/collector Victor Wynd

Victor Wynd is a remarkable young man. He is a collector, an artist, a party organiser and lately also a shopkeeper. His shop in Hackney, East London is called ‘The Little Shop of Horrors’ and it sells the sort of things that appeal to Wynd and his sense of the absurd, the macabre and the plainly weird. His party organising goes under the name of The Last Tuesday Society, which is dedicated to " exploring and celebrating the esoteric, artistic and literary aspects of London life with a mixture of masked balls, naked feasts and intellectual debate". His balls are very successful attracting in some cases several thousand revellers and taking place in some disused railway arches in South London. Costumes, dressing up and disguising are de rigueuer at these balls. His success with the masked balls allows Wynd to indulge his passion for taxidermy and acquire some of the best pieces around, be they a baby camel, a sitting lioness, or a Victorian glassbox with a setpiece of stuffed squirrels playing cards. Through his mother, Wynd is a scion of the Tolstoy family and his scooter has been customised in pink with gilt arabic leaf patterns by his aunt the famous ceramicist Carolinda Tolstoy. Wynd is a true London original and his shop should be a must-see of any visitor interested in the unusual and unconventional. Wynd’s home is also in Hackney, a 10minute walk from his shop; he lives in a disused factory warehouse which he bought in a derelict state and has since done up. The object displayed in his home are not a permanent fixture and they constantly change, moving to and from his shop.
