Mallorcan Farm House

17th century Mallorcan property with minimal interior

This was formerly part of a sizeable farming estate - the bell on the first floor terrace was rung when work was over for the day. The house was bought some ten years ago by interior designer WB, who moved to the island with his wife and their baby daughter. The couple lived in the house for several years before undertaking an ambitious and uncompromising remodeling programme. This included the installation of a professional stainless steel kitchen from where a metal industrial staircase leads up to the main bedroom; devoid of furniture apart from an antique chest and the contemporary four poster, a sculptured bath stands in front of a vast panel of screen rusted metal, behind which is the dressing area. The downstairs living area is dominated by stone arches. Minimal in style, a pair of daybeds face the TV which is obscured by a sliding panel when not in use. Sheltered from the sun, the dramatic inner courtyard is filled with lush greenery. Once the centre of farming activity, it is now used for parties and entertaining.
