Hearts and souls

18th Century London townhouse

Having bought this late 18th Century London townhouse, Stephen and Clare have poured their hearts and souls into its sensitive conversion, complementing the best elements from successive phases of the property’s development to create a truly enchanting home.  When the couple first moved into their two-bedroom terrace, almost 18 years ago, the art insurer and furniture designer were determined that their restoration would enhance its period charm.  Taking their time, and with a huge amount of careful consideration, they gradually brought their vision to fruition, transforming every room. The result is a charming home with a magical quality that echoes the passage of time.  When it came to choosing colours, the pair deliberately selected a muted palette - the perfect backdrop for their cherished artworks and ceramics, which are now beautifully displayed throughout.  Recently, Stephen and Clare have turned their attention to the cellar, transforming it into a wonderful kitchen and dining area that’s fit-for-purpose, yet, like the rest of this characterful gem, retains the feel of a bygone era.
