Medieval Makeover

Medieval French Chateau turned into modern family home, interior design by Kate Earle

An ancient watchtower in north west France has been converted into a family home by the owner's American wife and Kate Earle of Todhunter Earle in London. An immense restoration project was carried out which included a new slate roof, replacing and reinforcing massive structural beams, repairing stone work, replacing all the windows and doors and creating solutions for bringing services into the building. Kate had worked on the owner's London house so successfully that we was asked to come up with all the interior colours, fabrics, furniture and finishes for the house. Virtually all the contents were bought in London - from the Olympia Antiques fair to favourite furniture dealers and fabrics from Chelsea Textiles and Alidad - rugs were made by Parsua and items chosen from the Emily Todhunter Collection. This house is a tour de force of teamwork, style and determination.
